Acupuncture treatment for low back pain & pregnancy back pain

At the Jade tortoise, we tend to use a combination treatment of Massage, Traditional Cupping & Acupuncture to get the best results. The massage is to firstly, help relax the muscles and relax the patient by increasing oxytocin and serotonin (our feel good & relaxing hormones). Traditional glass cupping also furthermore releases tight sore muscles and increase blood circulation and assists in relaxing the muscles. Acupuncture pins are gently inserted distally to pain receptors and locally in the muscles to unwind muscle fibers and again to get those muscles to keep on relaxing. When muscles are tight and stiff they can compress on nerves which cause pain.

Using a combination treatment and a heat lamp on the low back provides warmth, vasodilates (moves blood), relaxes muscles, decrease pain, increase range of motion and ultimately relax the patient.

It is common in an acupuncture treatment to feel deeply relaxed and less stressed. Decreasing our stress hormone (cortisol) is incredibly important for staying healthy. Having too much stress (cortisol) can impact the body negatively and cause a host of diseases.

There are many acupuncture points that are contraindicated in pregnancy. These specific acupuncture points have a strong effect on the hormone oxytocin (relaxin) hormone which can attribute to inducing labor/miscarriage. It is crucial to get an acupuncture treatment from a qualified acupuncturist. Acupuncture is considered safe however if done incorrectly severe injuries and consequences can occur.
